Cartoons are the most popular form of entertainment for kids and young adults alike. Cartoon channels are practically everywhere. Cartoon channels such as Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Toonami, Animax and Nickelodeon broadcast cartoons made by their own studios or acquired from other networks non stop, so kids have the reason to just sit in front of their TVs for an extended amount of time.
Children became very interested on watching cartoons of any kind that it became their favorite pastime. However, as they say, everything that is too much can be dangerous. Too much cartoons on children can be also detrimental to their overall lifestyle and health. So, what are the effects of cartoon channels on your children.
Cartons tend to bring psychological effects on children. Kids that watch cartons 3-5 hours a day are susceptible to violence. Children that watch cartoons with violent content becomes nervous, loud mouthed and aggressive. They also become disobedient and impatient.
This is already a no wonder as a lot of cartoons exhibit violence in all forms, and kids tend to get their aggressiveness because of these subliminal messages. A great example of this would be the old-time cartoon Tom and Jerry and its modern counterpart Oggy and the Cockroaches. A lot of what’s happening on these cartoons are pretty violent, and kids just laugh at them. Superhero cartoons such as The Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10 can be also violent, but just in a little way.
Cartoons can also make kids unable to distinguish between reality and fiction. One example of which is Spongebob Squarepants, wherein living under the sea became possible.
Being in front of the television for extended periods of time can be also detrimental to the children’s health. They tend to sit in front of the TV for several hours without any physical exercise plus the consumption of unhealthy foods such as junk foods, causing them to become obese.
These cartoon channels, especially Cartoon Network, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon broadcast cartoons 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and a lot of kids nowadays stay up all night just to catch up with their favorite cartoon.
Cartoons can be a good way to entertain kids. But with too much of it, cartoons can also bring negative effects to the children’s lifestyle. Moderation is always the key.
